String Serenade to Welcome Furloughed Government Employees

Bangor, ME – The Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s Masterworks concert series continues on Sunday, January 27, 2019 with String Serenade, a program featuring diverse works for string orchestra led by Music Director and Conductor Lucas Richman. Joining arts organizations and local businesses around the state and country, the BSO will offer free tickets to the performance for furloughed federal government employees (subject to availability).

“Our Principal Horn player Scott Burditt pointed out that other orchestras were doing this, and our staff and board really felt it was the right thing to do,” said BSO Executive Director Brian Hinrichs. “Music has the power to lift people up, and this is one small way we can help those affected by the shutdown in our community.”

The concert will begin with Handel’s Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 1, followed by Vanhal’s Concerto for Double Bass in E-flat major, a rarely performed work featuring BSO principal bassist Edward Allman as soloist. Allman is a longtime member of the BSO and noted orchestral and chamber musician throughout the Northeast. The program concludes with Dvorak’s gorgeous and stirring SerenadeOp. 22.
