Bangor Symphony Orchestra loans Grand Piano to Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness

The Yamaha Grand will be used by the center for performances

BANGOR, Maine – A beautiful collaboration is blossoming between the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness in downtown Bangor. On October 16, 2024, the Bangor-based moving company Fox & Ginn donated their services to move the grand from its home at the Bangor Arts Exchange to the performance space on the ground floor of the Wabanaki Center.

“I have always known that a piano can serve to inspire musical gatherings through sharing of song, creativity and friendship,” said BSO Music Director, Lucas Richman. “I really look forward to participating in the newly inspired collaborative events which will come as a result of our piano having found such a welcoming home.”

“Community partnerships and collaborations is where Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness shines. It is with great gratitude that we house the grand piano for the Bangor Symphony Orchestra; while continuing to work with them to explore all ways we can collectively serve the greater Bangor community,” shared Lisa Sockabasin, Co-CEO Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness, AND to have found this home for our piano in a loving space where it will be used to present small concerts in downtown Bangor. It speaks to our Vision of being a leadership organization for the community and region and helping to bring music to audiences beyond the concert hall.” said BSO Executive Director, Renia Shterenberg.

The piano has been installed at a window that faces Center Street with a plaque that reads:

IN THE SPIRIT OF COLLABORATION AND

FOR THE JOY OF MUSIC,

THE BANGOR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA IS

PLEASED TO LOAN THIS

YAMAHA GRAND PIANO TO

WABANAKI PUBLIC HEALTH & WELLNESS

There will be a free concert commemorating the collaboration on Friday, November 15 at 12:30pm at the Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness Center, located at 16 Central St., Bangor. This event will be open to the public.
