Announcing the 2018-19 Season

Bangor, ME – The Bangor Symphony Orchestra has announced plans for its 123rd season. In Lucas Richman’s ninth season as Music Director and Conductor, the Symphony is presenting a varied program anchored in a celebration of the famed American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday.

In addition to exploring Bernstein’s popular and lesser-known work with selections from Candide and a performance of his Serenade (After Plato’s “Symposium”) with violinist Chloe Trevor, the season will shed light on composers as varied as Johann Baptist Vanhal, William Grant Still and Joan Tower. Major symphonies by Mozart, Beethoven, Sibelius, and Shostakovich are also featured throughout the season. Internationally acclaimed pianist Alon Goldstein will kick things off on October 7th with a performance of Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, marking a return to Bangor.

On December 15 and 16, 2018, the BSO continues its annual collaboration with the Robinson Ballet to present the only full production of The Nutcracker with live orchestra in Central and Northern Maine. On March 9, 2019, famed David Bowie impersonator David Brighton and his band will be featured in Space Oddity: The Ultimate David Bowie Experience.
