Apply and Audition


We are now accepting applications for the winter/spring session.

Auditions take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025.


Audition Requirements

Prelude Violin and Viola:
-D major scale, 1 or 2 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Prelude Cello and Bass:
-A Major Scale, 1 or 2 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Philharmonic Violin and Viola:
-G or D major scale, 2 or 3 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Philharmonic Cello and Bass:
-D Major Scale, 2 or 3 octaves and arpeggio
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Woodwinds and Brass:
-Two scales with arpeggio (your choice)
-Two minutes of a prepared solo that best demonstrates your playing ability (your choice)
-Sight reading of orchestra excerpts (chosen by judges)

Percussionists:
-Prepare excerpts from solo and/or etude repertoire on pitched and non-pitched instruments.

Standard Tuition Details

Concertino Strings – $200 per year

Prelude Strings, Wind Ensemble, and Philharmonic – $275 per year or $150 per semester

The BSYO is committed to ensuring that all musicians who successfully audition for membership in BSYO ensembles are able to participate, regardless of financial considerations. Thus, we offer tuition waivers, reductions, or special payment plans to families who demonstrate financial need through the Tuition Assistance Application available by request. For the 2023-24 season, we are also offering the following sibling discounts:

  • 2nd sibling: $165 (40% off)
  • 3rd sibling: $110 (60% off)
  • 4th sibling: $0 (free)
